第53回NSW州日本語弁論大会
The 53rd NSW Japanese Language Speech Contest

We invite all learners of Japanese in the state of New South Wales to participate in this contest. In the contest, you will prepare a short speech in Japanese, practice presenting it, and perform it in front of judges. This will provide you with the most valuable learning experiences of both the Japanese language and presentation skills.

The High School Senior Division and Open Division winners will proceed to the Australian National Speech Contest.

This year, the speech contest returns in person and will be held in conjunction with the JSAA-ICNTJ 2023 conference.

date

Sunday, 3rd September 2023 9:00am - 2:00pm (time is approximate)

Venue

The University of New South Wales

Contest Guide

Each contestant will give their own original speech on the topic of their interest at the NSW State Japanese Speech Contest. They will participate in relevant divisions of the contest, i.e., High School Senior Division, Open Beginner Division, and Open Division. Winners of the High School Senior Division and Open Division will progress to the Australian National Final Contest.

Background speakers will compete either in High School Senior Division or Open Division. In case a background speaker contestant wins the State Contest, due to the regulations of the National Final Contest, they will not represent the state at the National Final regrettably, but instead the highest-ranking non-background speaker contestant will proceed to the National Final.

The subject, content and form of the speeches are left open to each contestant, however, the speeches have to be their original work.  Contestants who have competed in previous contests may not use the same speech (this includes title and content) presented in previous years.

Please carefully read the division descriptions, eligibility, rules and judging criteria section before applying. You can also refer to the last year's contest site to feel how the contest was run.
