Q1. I am not a member of JSAA. Can I still participate?

 

Yes, you can participate by paying the non-member participation fee. Alternatively you could consider becoming a JSAA member and then pay the member participation fee. The price is the same for both.

 

Q2. For group presentations, is it possible for just one speaker to present?

 

Yes, however, all whose names appear on the title of the presentation will be required to pay the participation fee.

Q3. Do I have to include in-text citations and a reference list in the abstract?

No. The abstract should usually be self-contained and fully understandable without reference. 

 

Q4. Am I able to do multiple presentations by myself?

 

You can only do ONE presentation where you are the main presenter. There are no restrictions on the number of co-presentations you may do. If considering this, please be mindful that a number of presentations will take place in the same time slot.

 

Q5. Does the presentation topic need to be related to the conference theme ‘Living in a post-Covid Society: Mobility of People and Language across Borders for Social Integration?

 

No. It is not necessary for it to be related to the theme, but it needs to be within the research areas of Japanese Studies and Japanese language. 

 

Q6. Do I need a visa to come to Australia?

 

Japanese passport holders require a visa to enter Australia. Electronic applications may be made through https://japan.embassy.gov.au/tkyojapanese/visa_main.html

All other passport holders should contact the Australian Embassy or consular authority in their respective countries for information.

Q7. Can I revise my abstract after it has been accepted for presentation?

 

No, you cannot. Accepted abstracts will appear in the program as is.

Q8. Are you able to issue an invitation letter for obtaining a visa?

Yes. Please contact us through this website, and we will send it to you via email.

Q9. I have received a conference scholarship, but can I apply for/receive another scholarship from other institutions or my university?
 
Yes, if the amount of the scholarship is small and it only covers the partial expense of your travel.

Q10. Are there accommodation options available on campus?

 

No. From UNSW there are frequent and reliable public transport services (i.e. buses, light rail) to Sydney’s CBD, where a wide range of accommodation options are available. The surrounding areas of Randwick, Coogee, and Bondi Junction also have many options.

Q11. The conference dinner is described as semiformal. What kind of clothes should I wear?

 

General business attire (i.e. long-sleeved shirts, blazers, jackets, trousers etc.) will suffice. No shorts, hoodies, polar fleeces, active wear, sneakers etc. are permitted. But, of course, you are welcome to dress up more than semiformal also.

Q12. Can I use free WiFi at UNSW and the University of Sydney?

Yes, both univeristies have free WiFi. The detail information will be on your name tag which will be given at the reception.

Q13. Can you issue a certificate of conference participation ?

Yes, once the conference concludes, we will be sending you the certificate of participation via email.
